IIK - the ideal starting point for studying in Germany

Would you like to improve your career opportunities in your own country? You want to qualify internationally or seek your fortune abroad? Studying in Germany enjoys an excellent reputation worldwide, especially in the fields of technology and natural sciences. Foreign students and qualified workers are welcome in Germany. And most importantly: Most federal states do not charge tuition fees, but only a semester fee, which is used for the university's sports and cultural activities, for the public transport ticket and for the university canteen, among other things.

In order to be able to use this opportunity, you have to meet various requirements. For this you need an institute in Germany that prepares you linguistically in the best possible way for your studies and offers you optimal and individual support in application and visa matters.

We are happy to be this reliable partner at your side. Simply book one of our University Pathway Programs: With the Basic, Basic Plus or Premium Program you can decide for yourself how much support you would like to receive from the IIK in addition to your German course.

Prerequisites for studying in Germany

University admission

With a foreign Abitur you can only study directly at a German university if the degree is recognised as a university entrance qualification (this applies, for example, to all EU countries). If not, you must attend a "Studienkolleg" in Germany (duration: approx. one year), have already studied two or more semesters in your home country or take special examinations (Feststellungsprüfung).

Funding

In Germany there are no tuition fees in most federal states, only a semester contribution of about 100 – 350 €, depending on the university. On top of that there are living costs of about 700 € per month and the German state requires proof of financial independence of foreign students before the student visa is granted.

Visa

The conditions for obtaining a student visa vary from country to country. You will find detailed information on the website of the German embassy in your country and in the context of our study counselling service.

German language examination

The most important prerequisite for studying in Germany is: the German language. International applicants must take a language test before enrolling at a university.

You can choose between the following exams: TestDaF (= Test German as a Foreign Language), DSH (= Deutsche Sprachprüfung für den Hochschulzugang) and telc C1 Hochschule. All of them can be taken at IIK or at IIK partners. You confirm the level C1, for which you must learn approx. 800 - 1,000 hours of academic German in order to pass. Some universities also accept other examinations. The IIK will analyse which exam is best suited to you and choose the optimal test date within your personal study plan. The IIK also ensures that you get the examination place you want, because often all places are allocated within a very short time. Through trial tests and special trainings you will get to know the exams in detail and can prepare for them in a targeted manner.
